Dr. Keith Massey
Keith Massey received a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Classics from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in
1987. He completed a Master of Arts in Old Testament from Luther Seminary in 1990, a Master of Arts in Hebrew
and Semitic Studies from the UW-Madison in 1992 and his PhD in the same field, with a minor in Arabic in 1998.
After 9/11, he went to work at the Top Secret National Security Agency as an Arabic linguist, where he served for
more than four years. He now teaches Latin and Arabic in New Jersey, summering with his wife in her native
Romania. An avid traveler, Keith has visited 15 different countries, five of which have been Arabic-speaking
countries.
Keith is the author of Intermediate Arabic for Dummies, as well as a number of other academic articles on a variety
of linguistic topics.
Rev. Kevin Massey
Kevin Massey received a Bachelor of Arts with Distinction in Linguistics from the University of Wisconsin in 1987.
Rev. Massey completed his Master of Divinity at Luther Seminary in St. Paul Minnesota in 1993. Kevin is an
ordained pastor of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, as well as a Board Certified Chaplain with the
Association of Professional Chaplains. Kevin worked as a chaplain and spiritual care trainer and coordinator with
Advocate Health Care in Chicago from 1999-2005. He has worked extensively in the field of Disaster Spiritual Care
administration and training with the American Red Cross and Church World Service including service at Ground
Zero in the fall of 2001 and 2005 Katrina response. Rev. Massey is currently the Director of Lutheran Disaster
Response. He is an accomplished linguist, conversant in several languages. Rev. Massey studied and worked abroad
in the Middle East on several occasions. Kevin has written numerous articles, curricula, chapters, and a book on
such diverse topics as Spiritual Care, Clinical Ethics, Disaster Response, Linguistics, Archaeology, and
inter-religious dialogue.
